A beautiful bar and restaurant down one of the closes off the Royal Mile. Look out for the archway of fairy lights at the end of the close, as it's easily missed, but well worth taking the time to find.

Not where you would expect to find one of the best mid-range restaurants in Edinburgh, but this is a firm favourite with our family. The food and service is excellent, and it's very reasonably priced.

This is a great wee restaurant if you're in the area. It started off as a pop up restaurant during the festival, and was so successful, it now operates year-round. Just turn up and get seated at one of the benches (it's not possible to get a private table or to book in advance), and choose from a great range of authentic Thai street food at very reasonable prices.

Parks & Nature

Free entry to stunning gardens, with one of the best views in the city up to the Edinburgh skyline. If you're tired of the hustle and bustle of the town centre, it's well worth taking a stroll around. Best avoided if the weather is bad, though, as there's not much opportunity to shelter from the elements.

Sightseeing

Visible as you walk from the apartment to the Royal Mile, St Anthony's Chapel ruins make for a very atmospheric backdrop first thing in the morning, or when the sun is setting. It is a short, but steep, walk from the main road (Duke's Walk), and as well as providing a great vantage point, it has some interesting information boards telling you about its origins.”

If you are interested in doing a whisky distillery tour, the Glenkinchie distillery is perfect. It's just 20 minutes drive from the apartment, and aside from being the closest distillery to Edinburgh, it also produces great single malts. Tours can be arranged from various tour operators, based on the Royal Mile, or you can drive there yourself...Just make sure you've agreed who's going to be the designated driver!
