Unique. Part diner part gastropub. A part of the West-end Halifax scene for decades! Very family friendly. Right beside the North West Arm, so you can work off your dinner with an evening stroll by the water.

One of my husband’s favorite places. Steve says, “Try the mushrooms on toast!” Burgers and fish and chips are also good.

Looking for morning coffee and pastries? Finsbury Market aka European Pantry is literally around the corner! Strawberry danish is our favorite, with fig danish a close second. Also a great place to pick up a fresh loaf of bread.

Shopping

An historic shopping district with bakery, café, pizzeria, craft and flower shops, and more. The hydrostone area of Halifax was built as emergency housing after the famous Halifax Explosion, with materials sent from Boston. Halifax and Boston have maintained a special relationship ever since. Halifax still sends Boston a huge Christmas tree every year as a thank you! The market has a lovely village feel to it, and Fort Needham hill right around the corner has a memorial to the victims of the explosion and great views of the harbour.

Need some supplies for a picnic? Our community farmer's market is great place to find local food and drink (including craft beers, ciders, and wines) and is WAY less crowded than the Seaport Market downtown. A nice 15-minute walk from our place. Open Saturday mornings.

In and around Agricola Street between Almon and Cunard is the "Design District" - of interest to those who like furniture and interior design. Wander and explore. Check out Renovator's Resources close by for some unique repurposed and up-cycled architechtural items, too :)

Need some retail therapy? The Halifax Shopping Centre is mostly about clothes, jewelry, luggage, and shoes, but there is also an Apple Store, a Royal Bank, and a drug store. Walmart and Winners are in the annex across the street.

An easy biking trail which follows the old railway route. The trail follows beside a chain of lakes (hence the name) and connects up with the Bayers Lake shopping and industrial park. For more dedicated cyclists, you can follow this trail out to Timberlea, the Bike and Bean coffee shop, Queensland Beach, and beyond.

My favourite right-after-work beach spot, just 20-30 minutes from our place. The water will be beautiful from late June through early fall (last year I had my final swim after Canadian Thanksgiving)... but then, I'm a Maritimer and used to cold water! Stop by the Shore Club for a down home lobster supper before heading home, if you can get a reservation!
