Don't judge this pub by its cover photo! :) Really cosy country pub, stunning scenery, fabulous, home-cooked food (much better than average pub). Roaring fire. 25 minute walk across the moor.

One of the top ten cosy pubs in Britain. Fabulous food using local ingredients - meat heavy, so not recommended for vegetarians or vegans, and not great for special dietary requirements. But if you love hearty, slow cooked interesting cuts of meat then this is your place!

Sightseeing

Walk straight from the cottage, round the track, past the train platform, take a left on the bridge, go over the brook, past the mill and the mill cottage, and 50 yards on your right there will be a track. Follow this track up the hill, past a very large house on the left and through the gate into the woods. Just keep following the path through the woods and you will be entering Padley Gorge. Walk for 15 minutes to reach the 'top'. Beautiful ancient woodland, and bubbling brook below. Look out for the 'money tree'.

An ancient village, settled in Anglo Saxon times, famous for the events of 1665-1666 when the village went into a voluntary lockdown after a plague outbreak. Learn more about this fascinating story by visiting the museum and visiting the village - many of the seventeenth century cottages still exist and are well sign-posted.
