The High Peak Trail is 17½ miles long and runs between Dowlow (at the Buxton end – just 6 miles short of the town) and High Peak Junction (close to Cromford). It's car free all the way and you will be spolied with stunning views and pit stops at cafe's and cycle hire centres along the way. You can start your cycle route from Hurdlow with a short cycle (or walk) to the trail entrance next door to the Royal Oak pub. From here you can head off to Wirksworth or shortly after Parsley Hay (where you can hire bikes too) you can head off to the Tissington Trail and cycle all the way to Ashbourne.

A great day out for the family with something for everyone to enjoy. Enjoy a visit to the Wincle Brewery, where you can even do a one day brewing course! After a trip to the brewery why not call into the Ship Inn, just down the lane where you can sample Wincle’s fine ales in the pretty beer garden. Follow up with finally finishing the day off with a visit to Blaze Farm, a working farm that has become famous for their awarding winning Hilly Billy Ice Cream which is all made on the farm using the milk from their dairy herd. With tea rooms, nature trials and animals to pet there is something for everyone!

Perhaps best known for its unique and delicious Pudding, Bakewell has many more tempting treats to offer. A shoppers delight, with lots of independent and artisan shops, specialist markets and boutique finds you can while away hours roaming its pretty streets and perusing the local offerings. Head down to the River Wye and stroll along its pretty banks, (you can go all the way to its neighbouring pretty village of Ashford), feed the ducks and scoff ice creams in the huge parkland next to the river. An architectural hidden gem with its mellow stone buildings, medieval five-arched stone bridge and quaint courtyards, they are a magnet for painters, photographers and sightseers alike. Legend has it that the town's famous Pudding was created by mistake by a local cook in the mid-19th century. Today her delectable 'jam tart that went wrong' can be sampled at various bakeries and cafés and posted virtually anywhere in the world! Bargains galore are on offer every Monday at the bustling outdoor market, and for an extra buzz, head for the livestock market to experience the action in the theatre-like auction ring. Thinly disguised as 'Lambton' in Jane Austen's literary classic Pride and Prejudice, Bakewell is the ideal place for an interesting town walk. Visit The Old House Museum - one of the oldest buildings in Bakewell - for a fascinating insight into the town's past.
