Cosy little pub in the heart of Charlbury, with good selection of ales. The food is good too! A good place to end a walk. A taxi back from here to the cottage is typically £10-15.

Very good for Sunday lunch - good food, and the decor is great. At the pricier end (£20 for a roast), but worth it. Make sure you book ahead.

A top notch farm shop (with prices to match!). We often go just to snoop without buying anything - but a great place to pick up a treat or two.

We've never actually been here, but a colleague has and highly recommended. It's only a mile or so from the cottage, so worth checking out (and let us know!)

We've not actually been, but if you're into Clarkson's Farm, then the farm shop is only a 15 minute drive away.

Neighbourhoods

Nearest town to the cottage, about a 15 minute drive. Witney is a lovely town, often overlooked due to it not being in the Cotswolds. The nicest stretch is up the high street and onto the village green. You'll pass lots of good pubs and restaurants. Witney is also the most useful town, with many supermarkets, useful shops, and a cinema. There's free parking in the town centre (by M&S).

Picture postcard village a 10 minute drive away. Very pretty with some nice shops, pubs, and cafes. Not a full day kinda place, but nice for a wander and a coffee.

A great wet day option. Oxford is only a 35 minute drive away, or 16 minutes on the train from Charlbury. It's a great city to wander around (the college gardens in particular) - with lots of great shops, cafes, restaurants and sites. Parking in the city centre is tricky, so use one of the park & ride locations on the way in.

Shopping

Mentioned only due to its proximity, and better kept back for a rainy day... but Bicester Village has some good outlet shops for high end brands. As shopping experiences go, it's a pretty pleasant one!

Charlbury walk

There's a good round walk starting in Charlbury. It's number 18 in the green book provided. Charlbury is a lovely little village, and the Bull Inn is a great place for a cosy drink and snack afterwards. You can make this an A to B walk from the cottage, but requires a couple of kilometers on roads until you meet the loop. Head through the village, past the church, and turn left onto Hatchings Lane. Continue for about 1.5km, and then look for the right onto the footpath through Wychwood forest.

Pass the Cotswolds Airport

Not worth a special trip, but if you get the choice of a route that goes past the Cotswold Airport, take it. Lots of big passenger jets are stored here, and the A429 goes right past (and sometimes under) them.
