Fun

The 18-hole golf course has beautiful scenery and perhaps one of the best par 3 holes in the state. Golf hint; all of the greens, no matter how they appear slope toward the lake. All except one; see if you can tell which one!

City/town information

Sterling is in Sanpete County. Palisade Pines address is officially in Sanpete County ½ mile north of the town of Sterling. Jensen Lane is on the old-highway between Manti & Sterling. Address: 315 East Jensen Ln Sterling, Utah 84665 Sterling, Utah was settled in 1873 and incorporated in 1934. Founded by William G Petty and originally named Pettyville. Sterling is a small quiet town in Sanpete County, Utah, United States on Heritage Highway 89. Elevation: 5,574’. The population was 331 in 2020. Sterling was surveyed by James Snow in 1881 after securing rights to former Indian reservation land from the government. Most of the Pettyville settlers moved to this higher bench above Six Mile Creek, six miles south of Manti, and the main road eventually rerouted to service them. Scandinavian style stone mileage markers once signed the old route along the San Pitch. Teacher Gus Clark won the then considerable sum of $5.00 in a contest to name the place. One sore loser was so vexed that he slugged Clark, tarnishing the town’s “sterling” reputation. A quiet village with several pioneer adobe houses, the place still maintains one small gas station. Sterling is the gateway to Palisade State Park and Six Mile Canyon, which leads to the top of Skyline Drive. Palisade State Park has camping, an assortment of non-motorized water activities, fishing, biking and hiking trails; and an 18-hole golf course with a restaurant at the clubhouse. Because Sterling is almost in the Center of Utah, it is a great overnight stopping point as you travel between Northern Utah, and Southern Utah.
