Another place to visit is the 50 Mile New River Walking & Biking Trail that starts in Galax.

The highest Mountains in Virginia are approx 1.5 hours west, known for its famous wild horses, abundant wildlife, and scenic views. This park is definitely worth the drive, and be sure to take the hike on the Appalachian Trail, where you are almost guaranteed to see the wild horses.
