Nederland is our small unique hippy vibe mountain town. Known for the international festival: Frozen Dead Guy Days, this town is filled with friendly locals. The drive to Nederland from the Cabin is fill with breathtaking divide views of the mountains: Indian Peaks. Sunset is especially wonderful. Please don't stop on the side of the road to take photos of the Indian Peaks, stop instead where there is a wide pull out. Things to Do: 3 breweries, although my favorite is the Very Nice Brewery ( gluten reduced beer options) friendly locals. My favorite place for dinner: Cross Cut. Second best: Backcountry Pizza - great wine, beer, and video games. Interesting things to do: Ride the Carousel of Happiness. seriously hand carved rides, old school carousel, it will make you happy. Outdoors: Go up Caribou ( a best kept secret for nature lovers) in the summer for some of the best off-roading in Colorado. In the winter its a backcountry cross country ski, snowshoe, and sledding favorite. The road is rough in the winter, you will need a 4x4. If we get a lot of snow its not recommended to drive up as its not maintained. If you prefer staying in town, take your backcountry pizza sub sandwich to Barker Reservoir, sit along the lake, picnic with the dog, walk along the trail. Remember to leash up your furry friend, and whatever you do don't get in the water, its a ticketed offense. If you lake fish, come around May as the ice pulls away, you will catch fresh ( not stocked) trout. Make sure to get a fishing license first at Ace Hardware. The lake is monitored, but also a nice drive up spot with a short walk to some of the best fishing holes around. You can also rent bikes with fat tires, for a ride along Magnolia trails from Salto. Rent snow shoes from the Train Car coffee shop in the B&F shopping center. Nederland has an organic grocery local foods called the Peoples Co-op. as well as a normal small mom and pop style grocery about the size of Sprouts called the B&F. If you love a good grilled burger, get one from the B&F. They won't disappoint.

Waterfalls in the summer, and the best snow shoeing in the winter. Bears are on this trail, be smart, be prepared. Take the shuttle from Nederland, park n ride, this is not a drive to the trailhead option in the summer, you must use the shuttle. Winter: is a drive up park, and go about your way.

Kayak, hike, Paddle Board, Fish. Gross Reservoir is my favorite play land near the Cabin. As a 20 year resident, that says a lot! Summer months from June to the Sept 3rd its open for SUP. Get there early for good parking, early means 8am. Osprey Point is the boat dock ( no motorized, no dog swimming). Bring a lot of SPF 50, or higher, remember you are at 10,000 feet in elevation, meaning you are closer to the sun with the reflections. Windy days can ruin your peace, be sure to check the wind speed before you go. Beyond 20 miles per hour will be miserable. Also prepare for rain, and some cool spots. Take a lunch and water if you plan to stay all day, as you are off the beaten path here. If you don't SUP or Hike or Mountain Bike, its also a gorgeous drive and nice spot for a day picnic, but for that adventure skip Osprey Point go right at the fork ( North ) instead.

Off Road heaven! Jeeps, ATV's UTV's. The road to the pass is rough, but gorgeous mountain views, along Boulder Creek. You will be in awe on the drive there. There are many roads off of the main route in. Be mindful, go slow, and explore. Be aware the trails are snow packed and walk only or snow shoe or ski only until mid July. Hit up Moffet Tunnel in the winter for the best backcountry cross country ski and snow shoe.

This a forest and drive you simply do not want to miss. Hike or fish the lakes or simply pull over put some quarters in the view glasses at the midway point, to see the Indian Peaks Wilderness Close up. Access Golden Gate from the Cabin by taking a left out of the neighborhood onto Coal Creek Canyon ( HWY 72) then take a right on Twin Spruce road, follow this road, it turns into a turn road that enters the park. Take a lunch and stop at the view point, hike, and enjoy. Visit in the fall ( mid september) and you'll know why they call this mountain Golden, CO. Aspens will dance in the light. Be sure to leave with a full tank of gas, or stop at the Sinclair by the liquor store just before the turn, gas up. Bring food and water.

A gorgeous drive any time of year, see the Indian Peaks wildnerness up close. After heading out of the neighborhood you will know why they call our mountain neighborhood " Wondervu" . Take a RIGHT (WEST) out of the neighborhood towards Nederland onto Coal Creek Canyon ( HWY 72) . You can drive all the way to Estes Park or take a loop thru Lyons into Boulder and back thru HWY 93. During the fall this is listed as one of the Top 5 drives in Colorado to Leaf Peep ( view the aspens and changing colorado colors). The Cabin is off of the main HWY on the Peak to Peak ( HWY 72)). Sit on the porch, enjoy the view from the cabin, or venture out along the highway for an absolutely memorable visual delight. A nature photographer's inspiration awaits. Mid September thru Early October. A 3 week short window.

Get here early if you plan to spend the day, it is a busy place, often a long wait in line, one car in one car out. Park pass required. Breathtaking views and hikes. This is in the forest, higher up in elevation: For a winter snow shoe check the wind forecast prior to heading here. anything past 15 miles per hour will be a miserable day. In the summer: take a hoody, jacket, beenie hat, and long pants, its about 10-20 degrees cooler here than the Cabin location. Prepare for a day hike with food and water. Bring bear spray if you have it, as this is bear country, moose, and dear, and mountain lions. Easy to moderate trails, nothing too difficult, other than the elevation. Drink a lot of water at higher elevations to avoid getting sick. If you don't want to hike, its a great place to drive up, do a short walk, and have a picnic. Plenty of tables, a large visitors center, with CLEAN public restrooms.
