With with a population of 22 000, San Ignacio along with it's 'twin town' of Santa Elena, separated by the Macal River, is the second most population town in Belize, after Belize City itself. San Ignacio is a incredibly safe place to visit (or live in) and is the ideal base to discover The Cayo District - The Wild West, locals always say The West Is The Best ! The Farmers Market is open seven days a week, but Saturday is the best day to visit if you can, mix with the locals and enjoy some great food.
