A la gente le encanta comparar lugares, buscarles apodos y compartir historias de sus vacaciones en sus ciudades favoritas. Y a Punta del Este, sobrenombres no le faltan, pues a esta ciudad se la conoce como «Mónaco del sur», «la perla del Atlántico» y «los Hamptons de Sudamérica». Si una ciudad cuenta con un puerto lleno de megayates, está claro que algo especial tiene. En los lados de la península portuaria se extienden dos de las mejores playas de Uruguay, limitando el ajetreado centro de Punta del Este. Al este y al oeste de la ciudad encontrarás modernos pueblos surferos en los que podrás alquilar villas en la playa de estilo rústico chic.

Cómo llegar a Punta del Este

El aeropuerto internacional de Punta del Este (PDP) se encuentra a 16 kilómetros del centro de la ciudad y tiene conexiones aéreas con el Aeroparque Jorge Newbery de Buenos Aires. Si prefieres ahorrarte el vuelo con escala, puedes coger un ferry que te llevará en 3 horas hasta Montevideo y después cubrir por tierra las 2 horas que te quedarán para llegar a tu destino. Una vez en la ciudad, lo más recomendable es alquilar un coche, ya que en temporada alta es complicado coger un taxi. Si te apetece hacer excursiones a caballo o apuntarte a algún recorrido sobre arte o vino, las empresas de tours también son una excelente opción. La moneda oficial en Punta del Este es el peso, pero también se puede pagar con dólares estadounidenses en la mayoría de las tiendas.

Dónde sacar las mejores fotos de tus vacaciones

Qué mejor escenario para empezar la sesión que en la arena, posando entre los dedos de La Mano, una preciosa escultura de Mario Irarrázabal que se encuentra en Playa Brava. Después, date un paseo por el puerto protegido de Punta del Este y echa un vistazo a los yates. ¿Te apetece sacar fotos a los leones marinos? Probablemente los encontrarás junto a la orilla del mar. ¡Y no le tienen ningún miedo a la cámara! Si tienes ganas de verlos más de cerca, móntate en un barco hasta Isla de Lobos, donde podrás zambullirte y nadar con estas divertidas y adorables criaturas. Para alejarte durante un rato de la ciudad, visita el Museo Ralli, un museo de arte moderno que se centra en América Latina, Europa y el movimiento surrealista.

Los dos lados de la ciudad

Con unos nombres muy apropiados, Playa Mansa y Playa Brava son las mejores zonas costeras de Punta del Este. Situadas a lo largo del litoral, a ambos lados de la península, cada una tiene un tipo de arena: la primera, gruesa y dorada, y la segunda, blanca y fina.

Playas fuera del centro de la ciudad

Si lo que buscas es escapar de las multitudes, pon rumbo al este y para en Pinares y Las Delicias, dos playas preciosas que no atraen a demasiados turistas. Las playas que encontrarás hacia el oeste, La Barra y Bikini, son las preferidas de los más fiesteros y también de los miembros de la alta sociedad, que se divierten entre las olas y practicando windsurf, y disfrutan degustando cócteles en los bares de la costa.

Descubrimientos únicos en la zona comercial

Las calles de la península y el centro de la ciudad están repletas de boutiques que hacen gala de las últimas tendencias de moda. Las prendas de vestir se envían desde Buenos Aires y Montevideo, y son perfectas si buscas un recuerdo interesante, único y de gran calidad relacionado con la moda. En la calle 20 encontrarás una amplia selección de firmas internacionales, mientras que en las ramblas que discurren junto a las playas Brava y Mansa hay un montón de tiendas más pequeñas.

La gastronomía mundialmente famosa de Punta del Este

Comer en Punta del Este es una fusión de ingredientes locales, mariscos frescos y caipiriña. Empieza con una comida en La Huella o La Caracola, un par de restaurantes de estilo informal situados frente a la playa y con unas increíbles vistas al mar en los que sirven un sushi de primera. A la hora de la cena, Marismo y Namm son dos de los lugares más populares. Ambos se encuentran al aire libre entre árboles de la pimienta, en patios a la luz de las antorchas. Si te van más los platos vegetarianos, el restaurante La Olada será todo un acierto. Para tomar una copa, dirígete a Moby Dick, Bigote Bar o Capi.
