#Bukchon Hanok village tour #Wine tasting at the only distillery in Seoul #Legendary craft Soju We will start our journey with a brief tour (15~20 minutes) of Bukchon Hanok village. I have been running a beautiful Hanok (traditional Korean house) homestay on Airbnb and I fell in love with Hanok's beautiful courtyard and its architecture. Upon our arrival at Samhaesoju brewery & distillery, our tasting will start. Our tasting venue, Samhaesoju, is the only distillery in Seoul and the master, Taeksang Kim, has been crafting Korean liquors for decades. He is a well-recognized figure in Korean alcohol industry and he is considered as one of the very best masters in the entire country. We will have a privilege to taste his liquors. Korean alcohol is a lot more than a green bottle of soju, which is just diluted ethanol. Broadly, we have Takju (unfiltered fresh rice wine), Yakju (clear rice wine) and Soju (distilled rice spirit). You will have a chance to taste each of them and you will learn briefly about each type of rice wine and you will be able to educate your Korean friend in the future. I assure you, you will never find this quality of rice wine anywhere else at a commercial place in Seoul.

I entered this industry when I got a job at a craft Korean liquor tasting bar as a sommelier 2 years ago. I discovered Korea also had a long history of alcohol making and most importantly, our own alcohol tasted wonderful. I decided to pursue a further study on Korean rice wines from a brewing & distilling school in Seoul and now I am a certified Korean liquor maker. I am also a full-time hiking tour guide and I enjoy every kind of outdoor activity. I have hosted more than 2,000 visitors. I hiked the same mountain 600 times. I still love to hike because I get to talk to people from all over the world. I live to eat, drink and explore nature.

Last year, I had a chance to learn Soju distilling from a Korean liquor master of Samhaesoju and I was always eager to showcase his distillery and rice wines to more people. It is located in the heart of Bukchon Hanok village. Bukchon is the last standing true traditional village in Seoul.
